I think the reporter for CBS News said it best after covering the speech for their network (not word for word): “It was a speech that was well delivered, yet not one mention of any direct plan”. What is new? What did you expect? The main difference between what we have in the White House now and what we had when W was in office is this exact situation. Even if Bush was given speech lessons from Reagan or Tony Robbins for 200 days straight he would never put himself in the situations that Obama puts himself in. Why? Because there is really no value other than to keep a campaign promise. This is value for Obama. What value does this have for America? Does anyone really think that one terrorist saw this speech and is now a changed man? No, Bush delivered cold, hard, non-pc facts and Obama delivers fluff. This speech accomplished nothing for this country. Nothing.

For probably the best breakdown of this speech, I urge you to click on this link below. Excellent stuff!

O.K., that is enough! Now I will protest your appearance on my campus!

O.K., that is enough! Now I will protest your appearance on my campus!

So, I have not posted anything about the whole Notre Dame speech deal basically because I wanted to stay away from making the Obama transcends God jokes. My take? I have heard some very good arguments why it was wrong to invite him. One thing I have not heard is why did he accept? He received hundreds of invites from universities all over the country. Why did he accept this as one of his appearances? Look, if you really do not know I will tell you. He believes that he can do anything. Anything. He also believes that he can transcend any belief or ideology. America created this man and we have to live with this for now, but forget all this! Here is the real reason for this post.

I love football, especially college football. I am not a Notre Dame fan but know many who are. Notre Dame fans are just about as passionate about football on Saturdays as attending mass on Sundays. Here is what Obama said about the Notre Dame football team and their recent horrible play over the last couple of years (From ESPN via AP:

After giving the commencement speech at Notre Dame, Obama spoke at an Indianapolis fundraiser Sunday night for the Democratic National Committee. He began his remarks by joking that he told The Rev. John Jenkins, the university president, that the controversy surrounding his campus appearance “paled in comparison to what to do about the football team.”

The Fighting Irish had records of 3-9 and 7-6 the past two seasons — the most losses at the school in a two-year period — and haven’t won a national championship since 1988.

“That’s an issue we may not resolve within my four years,” Obama said.

“Eight,” shouted someone from the audience.

“All right, well, maybe in eight we might get it done,” Obama said.

Wow! Obama may have just lost the Catholic vote in 2012 because of this not some speech made at a commencement ceremony!

Obama=Lucky?

Author: Admin account
04 15th, 2009

In a speech today that I caught at home during lunch televised on Fox, Obama was discussing the various tax initiatives that his administration had directed since the start of his term. He mentioned, in reference to the top 2% of Americans who are ‘lucky’ like him to be making that kind of money they would soon return to the Clinton tax bracket. It struck me that for once, Obama really nailed the problem at hand! To say that he and the rest of Americans who are successful enough to earn that kind of money are ‘lucky’ captures the crux of what is wrong with he and his policies toward taxation. These people must have all won the lottery, had wealthy relatives (even with the death tax) or had a really good day at the track. They must be all lucky!
Obama saying he is one of those lucky people is pure political gold. He wants to identify as a man of the people, many of these people will see him as willing to take one for the country by taking a bigger tax hit, some of those people will actually think he feels bad for making all that coin. Gold, I tell you Jerry, gold!
Forget the millions he will make after office on the public speaking circuit, the books deals and more than likely the movie rights for being the President. He needs to appeal to the people now and luck has nothing to do with it.

Real or Robot?

One of the major bashes on W for the 8 years he was in office was his tendency to mangle his words. Now, we have a President who uses a teleprompter like I use a dictionary when writing my posts. Which do you prefer? I think a teleprompter is a good thing for major speeches and basically a necessity. However, at a press conference? Shouldn’t you know the issues and be able to elaborate on them well enough that you do not need one? Is Obama’s use of one all of the time an indication that he he not very polished after all and certainly not ready for prime time? Is it used this often to avoid the scrutiny that he so dearly hates? Look at two instances when he did not use one. On Leno he certainly did not have that Special Olympics reference pre-loaded into the device did he? How about the most recent and (seems like70th) 60 Minutes interview with the nutty and psychotic laughter episode. Was that planned? Something to think about and yes, the freaking teleprompter has its own blog-well, not really but here:

Fight For Old Notre Dame

Author: Admin account

Is that how it goes? Anyway I have been amazed in the last week. First Duke, now Notre Dame! If Ohio State impresses me next I may go peacefully to my grave.
Using the power of DEMOCRACY it seems the good people in support of the Catholic religion (The Cardinal Newman Society) are none too pleased with the announcement that Mr. Obama will be speaking at the school’s commencement ceremony this Spring. Attached article below is not accurate. 63,000 people as of now have signed a petition opposing this. Nice numbers!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090324/ap_on_re_us/obama_notre_dame_2

How will this President react to open public disdain over one of his intended actions? Become Catholic? Invoke the words of Knute or Ara in his speech tonight? Make a law that all opponents of ND this year in football must start down 20 points? Pardon Faust? Anything is possible. Anything.

See the petition here: http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/

The Speech

I have the flu, which sucks. Never have I received a nose swab before - that sucks also. I asked the doctor why in my 37 years I have never received one and if this was a new thing.  He laughed at me and told me it has been around for longer than I have. Whatever. This may be the first and last piece of good health care I ever again receive.  So much to cover so little space.  Interesting piece regarding the lack of mention about our newest troop committal:

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/02/25/kristol-obama-no-war-president/

I love this article and the description of Obama as “self-referencing” . . . very accurate and one I will be paying attention to the next time I force myself to listen to him:

http://www.reason.com/news/show/131863.html

 My favorite quote?

”Obama aims to be the president of all Americans, a position that appears to be sincere. But I wonder whether in the process he might also want to consider appointing himself chief executive of his own head. All night long, with equally sonorous vigor, he served up confident assertions, only to state moments later, with equal conviction, their near opposite.”

I have stayed off Facebook lately because I have realized that a vast majority of people I consider my ”friends” have become liberal to the point of being ridiculous.  I bring this up because after seeing the 10th “status” posting regarding  “optimism” about Obama’s State of The Union Address, I decided to email the lucky 10th poster and let her know that this was not a State of the Union, explained what a State of the Union was, and congratulated her on her optimism.  I told her she should be excited!  World stage, all network exposure, rhetorical magician at the healm – what’s left not to be excited about? However, there will be little substance gained from this speech. Her response is as follows:

“It is just something I am interested in seeing.  Forgive me, but I AM optimistic!  As ugly as things are, we could use a little optimism these days.”

This is what has been advertised on FB…

“CNN.com Live and Facebook are bringing it back!  RSVP now to watch a special edition of State of the Union with John King on CNN.com Live, starting at 11AM ET.  Special coverage continues throughout the day until President Obama’s address at 9PM ET.”

It goes on and on . . . can you believe she is from L.A.?

The point I am trying to make is one I have tried to make before.  Very difficult to discuss substance and facts with people who are hypnotized and just looking for a non-factual boost of good feeling.

Really looking forward to the speech tonight.  How much do you want to make a bet that the doom and gloom Obama of the last month will be replaced with the campaign style Obama of the past 3 years?  National stage, all major networks and cable outlets, and an above average disapproval rate:
